Crochet wreath ornament | free pattern

Christmas and nature are two of my favourite things and my crochet wreath ornament is a perfect combination of both!

This crocet Christmas wreath decoration pattern is a slightly different take on a traditional wreath. The colors are delicate and sophisticated. With twinkling pearls and subtle, natural tones, it would feel right at home on a neutral or light and airy Christmas tree (although, you can absolutely use a different color scheme!).

If you had the time, a long trail of beautiful leaves would make the most wonderful garland to wrap around the Christmas tree and accompany this pretty crochet wreath ornament.

This crochet wreath project is also perfect for using up scraps of yarn, and can easily be adjusted to suit the supplies you have available.

Prepare the ring

Tightly wrap the scrap yarn around the ring. You can also use twine or raffia for a more rustic effect. Some yarn can slip and slide more than others. If needed, simply add a small dot of glue onto the ring to hold the yarn in place. Secure the ends in place with some glue.

How to crochet leaves - crochet Christmas decorations

Work 6 leaves in total. Weave in any ends. I highly recommend that you block the leaves. Simply dampen the crochet with some cool water and pin into place on a towel or piece of styrofoam. Blocking the leaves will give the yarn time to relax and will help you to shape the wreath much more easily.

Assemble the crochet wreath ornament

Using a sewing needle and matching thread, carefully sew the leaves onto the ring. You can use hot glue, or yarn if you prefer, but I find that taking the extra time to sew the leaves in place with thin sewing thread gives a more natural looking wreath.

Sew a few pearls in amongst the leaves. Finally, tie on some twine or yarn and hang your crochet wreath ornament on your Christmas tree.
