Free crochet Momo pattern | Avatar: the Last Airbender

Momo is a winged lemur, an iconic character in the animated series Avatar: the Last Airbender. Momo’s close companion is Appa the sky bison. I put together this crochet Momo pattern as part of a Momo and Appa set which was a custom order for a friend.  You can get the free crochet Appa pattern here. 1. Hi!

I see that your pattern uses size 3 yarn, do you think this pattern would still work with size 4 plus the appropriate hook size for both the Momo and Appa patterns? I already have the colors in size 4 on hand so just wanted to see if J could use what I already have 🙂 Thanks!

    • You can absolutely use a different sized yarn! The finished size will be a little different. I’m 100% pro using what you have in your stash already 😉 Happy stitching!

  2. Hi there – Loved the Appa and trying to make a Momo to go with it. I don’t understand the instructions though – after finishing the head, there are no instructions to bind off and so there is a hole of 6 stitches. After finishing the body, there’s a hole of 10 stitches. If I attach the head to the body, then Momo’s face (the brown) is facing up? Am I supposed to completely bind off and close the head so that I can then attach it on sideways so that the face is forward? Thank you!

    • So glad you enjoyed the Appa pattern! Yes, you are correct. Momo’s head is worked from his nose to the back of the head and the brown part should face forwards and not upwards. If you have gaps at the back after you have finished the last round, I suggest stitching it closed with a yarn needle for a neat finish. Then, pin the head onto the body before stitching it in place. Hope that helps!
